Faculty Position in Anatomic Pathology - The Department of Pathology, College of Veterinary Medicine at The University of Georgia, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Anatomic Pathology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to a qualified individual with strong commitment to research and teaching. However, special consideration will be given to applicants at the rank of Full Professor with a demonstrated record of research and teaching excellence.
The successful applicant will join a team of 17 pathologists, 9 residents, research scientists, and graduate students with interests including the pathogenesis of infectious disease in food-producing, avian, and aquatic animals, molecular diagnostics, genomics and proteomics, tumor pathobiology, neuropathogenesis of rabies, soft tissue physiology and repair, and emergency preparedness. University resources such as the high containment Animal Health Research Center (www.vet.uga.edu/ahrc), Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute (www.biomed.uga.edu/), and the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (www.ccrc.uga.edu/) provide access to the rapidly growing biomedical fields of infectious disease, epidemiology and public health, developmental biology, neurosciences, stem cell biology, and glycomics. Proximity to and extensive interaction with nearby facilities such as the Centers for Disease Control, Yerkes Primate Center, Atlanta Zoo, Georgia Aquarium, USDA-ARS Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory, and USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service Laboratories, ensure a broad range of collaborative possibilities.
Applicants must possess a DVM and PhD degree (or equivalents) and be certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (or equivalent). Primary responsib ilities will be the development of a sustained independent or collaborative research program and the teaching of professional students, graduate students, and pathology residents. The Department of Pathology, in cooperation with the Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, offers a comprehensive diagnostic service to veterinarians and animal owners in which the candidate is encouraged to share responsibility for a limited portion of the caseload.
The University of Georgia is located in Athens, a vibrant community of 100,000 located in the wooded Piedmont hills of northeast Georgia. Offering the amenities of a cosmopolitan city, the surrounding area also offers a wide variety of lifestyle choices. Athens is located 1½ hours from Atlanta, two hours from the Appalachian Trail, and four hours from the Atlantic coast.
