Graduate Degree Program and Residency Training in Veterinary Anatomic or Clinical Pathology - The Department of Pathology, College of Veterinary Medicine , The University of Georgia has an opening for combined residency training in anatomic or clinical pathology and completion of a PhD degree. This intensive, comprehensive training program is 4 years in duration and may be pursued in either veterinary anatomic or clinical pathology. Upon successful completion, the program is designed to culminate in a PhD degree and eligibility for the certifying examination of the American College of Veterinary Pathology.

Residency training is accomplished by a diverse faculty, 13 who are ACVP-certified, and includes avian, aquatic, and laboratory animal pathologists. Graduate research opportunities include, but are not limited to, the study of viral pathogenesis; arthropod borne infectious diseases; diseases of avian, aquatic, exotic, and wild animals; ecology of infectious diseases; cancer; and wound healing. Opportunities for research are also available through the University's Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program.

Residency training for anatomic pathology includes extensive necropsy experience in conjunction with the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and surgical biopsy service to the teaching hospital; these activities are augmented by seminars and formal course work, as well as, teaching assignments in the professional curriculum.

Residency training for clinical pathology includes instruction in hematology, cytology, laboratory medicine, and surgical biopsy along with seminars, formal course work, and teaching assignments within the professional curriculum.

Applicants must possess a DVM or equivalent degree.
