« Announcing: the new Noah's Arkive
Out with the Old…
So we started with a list; a list of everything we wanted to improve about Noah's Arkive. It was a big list. Let's face it. Noah's Arkive is a great teaching resource. But with its complicated install process, steep learning curve, and archaic platform requirements, it's a bear to use.
To fix everything we wanted to fix, we were going to have to start from scratch. So that's what we did. We retired the bear!
In with the New!
The next generation of Noah's Arkive has arrived! Redesigned from the ground up, the new web-based Noah's Arkive aims to be more useable and more accessible than ever before!
« What's new?
- Nothing to install
- Always up-to-date
- Open compatibility
- Simplified interface
- Easier search
- Flexible subscriptions
« Just a login away…
Noah's Arkive is now a web-based service, meaning there's nothing to install. No more installation headaches. Just point your favorite web browser to the Noah's Arkive website and login. It's finally that easy. And now you can access Noah's Arkive anywhere from any desktop that has an Internet connection.
« It never gets old!
Every time you login to Noah's Arkive, you are always accessing the latest most up-to-date version of the image archive. No more update headaches.
« All desktops welcome!
Whether you're on Windows®, Mac, or a Unix-like platform, Noah's Arkive is now available to everyone! All that's required is a javascript-enabled web browser and an Internet connection.
« Simple. Useable.
The new Noah's Arkive browser-based interface is straightforward and easy to use with search results displayed in an easy to read table or as thumbnail previews.
« Ask away!
The new Noah's Arkive search engine now accepts real word queries. Gone is the need to learn a lexicon of cryptic abbreviations in order to conduct searches. Now any related term, scientific (canine, feline, equine, etc.) or common (dog, cat, horses, etc.), may be used. Gone too is the overly complicated query interface with its multiple search fields and confusing operators. All queries are now entered into a single search box.
« Sign me up!
The new Noah's Arkive is now a subscription-based service, meaning you must subscribe in order to access it. A number of subscription options are available to meet a variety of needs. All subscription fees go entirely toward maintaining Noah's Arkive.
« System Requirements
The new web-based Noah's Arkive requires a desktop computer with an Internet connection and a javascript-enabled web browser.
NOTE: Noah's Arkive is a high resolution image repository, and ill-suited for small-screen devices. As such, small-screen devices are not actively accommodated.
