Welcome to the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. You are virtual guests to our campus by participation in this unique and innovative conference, the first International Virtual Conference in Veterinary Medicine: Diseases of Psittacine Birds. For many of you, this may be your first visit to our campus. I'd like to share some facts with you.

The University of Georgia was chartered in 1785, enrolled students in 1801, and has operated continuously since then. Today, nearly 30,000 students are enrolled in 13 schools and colleges on the Athens, Georgia campus. The College of Veterinary Medicine graduated its first class in 1950, and during 1996 to 2000, we're celebrating our 50th anniversary. Over 3000 veterinary alumni are employed throughout the world. The College of Veterinary Medicine has teaching, research and service responsibilities. Up to 320 professional students and 100 graduate students, interns and residents are enrolled. The Teaching Hospital provides primary and referral care for all species of animals serving people of the state and region. Two state diagnostic laboratories and a wildlife studies unit provide investigative and diagnostic services. The Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center is known throughout the world for its contributions to the health and vigor of poultry production. Faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine hold international acclaim for their research in health and disease of poultry and aquatic, equine, food production, wildlife and companion animals. We're especially proud of the success and renown of our researchers in health and diseases of psittacine birds. You will become more familiar with them through your interactions in this conference.

Again, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the virtual conference. Please know you are welcome to visit us in person at your first opportunity.

Sincerely,
Keith W. Prasse
Dean
