Bovine papular stomatitis is caused by a virus in the genus Parapoxvirus, Family Poxviridae. The virus infects cattle of all ages, although usually only calves have clinical illness. The disease is characterized by salivation and ulcerating papules on the muzzle, lips, nasal mucosa and teats. Diagnosis is by viral isolation and electron microscopy. |
