Prevention and Control | Botulism

Correction of phosphorus deficiency in the soil: High cost prevents the frequent application to pastures.

Phosphorus supplement: Computed levels of macro and micro elements within mineral salt is supplied in either block or loose form. This method is very effective because the correct mixture can be calculated, the supplement protected from the environment and is relatively inexpensive.

Vaccination: During drought, vaccinations should be done annually until the rain has returned. Animals that are vaccinated for the first time should receive a booster dose after 30 days. This series can be a very effective control measure.

Elimination of cadavers: Studies show that soil contamination with spores happens in an area up to 30 meters around the carcass. All contaminated material should be placed in a deep hole, burned, and remaining material buried.
