Texas 2005 | Importation of Cattle Througb Land Ports

Currently, Mexican cattle may move into the United States through select land ports along the Mexican border.
Before animals are allowed entry, they must meet several criteria:
— Animals must be accompanied by a certificate signed by a veterinarian from the national government of Mexico stating that:
  • They have been free from communicable disease for the past 60 days
  • They have been treated for tick infestations in the past 7-12 days
  • They have tested negative for tuberculosis in the last 60 days
— Males must be castrated
— Holstein or Holstein crosses are currently not allowed to be imported. Why?
— All cattle must be branded with an "M" brand
— All cattle must have a blue metal import ear tag
— Animals must pass a USDA inspection
