Currently, Mexican cattle may move into the United States through select land ports along the Mexican border. |

| Before animals are allowed entry, they must meet several criteria: |
| — Animals must be accompanied by a certificate signed by a veterinarian from the national government of Mexico stating that: |
- They have been free from communicable disease for the past 60 days
- They have been treated for tick infestations in the past 7-12 days
- They have tested negative for tuberculosis in the last 60 days

| — Males must be castrated |
| — Holstein or Holstein crosses are currently not allowed to be imported. Why? |
| — All cattle must be branded with an "M" brand |
| — All cattle must have a blue metal import ear tag |
| — Animals must pass a USDA inspection |
