Steady growth of the worlds population and the increasing dependence of the American economy on international consumers and the complex global political environment have far ranging implications for veterinary medicine in the U.S. We recognize that provision of food, the increasing importance of international trade, emergent diseases from husbandry advances, environmental disruption, and exponential international travel are issues of critical importance for veterinary medicine both at home and abroad.
The mission of the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine International Program is to help students, faculty and administration in the College make meaningful contributions to this globalization process. Specifically, the goals of the Program are:
-
to develop and facilitate international veterinary learning experiences in the form of externships for professional students
-
to highlight and promote the international research expertise of our CVM faculty
-
to develop and offer a Certificate in International Veterinary Medicine for graduate and professional CVM students
-
to enhance the overall development of international programs at UGA by interfacing with similar programs in other Colleges in the University
-
to provide a resource for Continuing Medical Education for practitioners.
