Argentina 2004 | International Workshop for Equine Health

International Activities Home > Students' Experiences > Argentina 2004

In the spring of 2004, students from UGA (Rebecca Reid, Emmanuel Rollin, Stephanie van der Westhuizen and Jarred Williams) and Texas A&M (Colleen Gladson, Krista Hardy, Cody Laas, Semira Mancill, Lani Matthews and Travis Nichols) along with Dr. John Peroni (UGA) and Dr. Eric Swinebroad (TAMU) participated in an international workshop for equine health, held in Argentina.
We'd like to thank the Department of Defense National Security and Education Program (DoD-NSEP) for sponsoring the workshop and Drs. Corrie Brown and John Peroni for making all the arrangements.
This was a most unique opportunity that was geared towards introducing and exposing American veterinary students to foreign diseases that infect and affect the equine industry and community.
The trip was organized in such a way that we were exposed to numerous factors that can lead to the occurrence, recognition, impact, and handling of disease. To fully appreciate these factors we explored and experienced the Argentinean culture in three very different areas of the country: Buenos Aires, La Plata and Capitan Sarmiento.
