Dr. Fu's Laboratory at UGA

Congratulations!

Dr. Tesfai Tseggai of the UGA, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Pathology has been appointed by the UN, Food and Agricultural Organization as the International Consultant for Animal Health and Livestock in the Sudan.

Dr. Tseggai was working as a research scientist in Dr. Zhen Fu’s  Rabies Laboratories of the Department of Pathology (UGA).

Yi "Katie" Kuang, MD, PhD student candidate. Katie is using the functional genomics approach to investigate the mechanisms by which wild-type rabies viruses evades, while lab-adapted rabies virus activates, the innate immune responses. She uses DNA microarray and real-time PCR to profile host gene expression.
Ling Zhao, DVM, PhD student candidate. Ling has been involved in studying protein ubiquitination of rabies virus proteins. In addition, Ling is also making recombinant rabies virus constructs for vaccine development and will test the virulence and immunogenicity of mutant viruses.
Sunny Y. Liu, DVM, PhD. Postdoctoral fellow. Sunny is a pathologist and is investigating the cellular changes of the host CNS after infection with rabies virus. She is using immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization as well as proteomics to probe the changes in protein expression in the CNS, particularly those molecules involved in neurotransmission. In addition, Sunny is also trying to identify cells in which respiratory syncytial virus persists in the lung tissue.
