The Merck-Merial Veterinary Scholar Symposium will give veterinary students
from across the nation an opportunity to meet and discuss their research
programs and projects. We are pleased to announce that this year it
will take place in Athens, GA, hosted by the University of Georgia.
The students will be given a chance to discuss their research and learn
about the different programs taking place at vet schools across the
US. This year, the following schools will be sending representatives:
Auburn
University
Colorado State University
Cornell
University
Iowa
State University
Louisiana State University
Michigan
State University
Mississippi State University
North Carolina State University
Ohio
State University
Oklahoma State
University
Oregon State University
Purdue University
Tufts University
University of California at Davis
University of Georgia
University of Pennsylvania
University of Wisconsin
Washington State University
The three primary goals of this meeting are to share strategies for
program and scholar success, to develop collaborative relationships
that facilitate this success, and to focus upon the research successes
of student Scholars. Each student is being asked to present a poster
that describes their research question, method of approach to the problem,
and any results they may have at the time of the symposium. For more
information, please go to Instructions
for Scholars.
This year's
symposium will include social events at Trumps
at the Georgian Hotel in downtown Athens, the Georgia
State Botanical Gardens, and UGA's Flinchum's Phoenix. We are also
pleased to announce that Drs. Nancy and Jerry Jaax,
the inspiration for the book "The Hot Zone", will be giving
the keynote address.
Athens, the birthplace of the musical groups REM and the B-52's, is
a 90 minute ride from the Atlanta
airport. It boasts many attractions and restaurants within walking
distance of the hotel and the vet school. For information on attractions
and popular restaurants in the Athens area, visit flagpole.com.
These
research programs would not be possible were it not for the generous
support from Merck Foundation and
Merial Ltd.
