« Assistant/Associate Professor of Molecular Biology/Immunology
The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a faculty position in molecular biology/immunology at the assistant or associate professor level. Candidates must possess a Ph.D., DVM/Ph.D., or equivalent degree(s) in Immunology or related field. We offer a competitive starting salary and start-up funding, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The approximate start date is July 1, 2011.
The position is located in the Department of Veterinary Biosciences & Diagnostic Imaging. Current research strengths in the Department include the study of: innate and adaptive immune responses in infectious diseases, airway inflammation, developmental immunology and immunotoxicity, and autoimmune diseases. Areas of specific interest include inflammatory cytokine signaling and signal transduction pathways, regulation of Th-17, Th-1, and Treg immune cells, immunopathogenesis, and immunoprotection.
The appointee will have an outstanding track record of research accomplishments in an area that complements the Department’s existing strengths. Candidates will be expected to collaborate in research with Departmental and College faculty, and to establish an independent, extramurally-funded research program in molecular biology/immunology. The appointee will also assist in teaching professional (DVM) and graduate courses related to his/her areas of expertise.

« Radiation Oncology Service seeks a Credentialed Veterinary Technician or Other Qualified Professional
This challenging position offers an excellent opportunity to be part of an exciting academic environment. Become part of a fast-paced, growing team of board-certified specialist veterinarians and technicians in the field of veterinary oncology.
The individual in this position will work alongside a board-certified veterinary radiation oncologist to effectively and efficiently run the radiotherapy program at UGA’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The technician will be essential in all aspects of treatment delivery including administration of radiation treatments using a linear accelerator, administering and monitoring anesthesia, and assisting in delivery of plesiotherapy using a strontium-90 applicator.
No experience in radiation oncology is required, however a willingness to learn new skills and gain knowledge is critical. In-depth, on- and off-site training in the handling of the linear accelerator will be provided. Candidates should be prepared to travel for training if needed. Basic mathematic skills are required. As part of a comprehensive and integrated oncology network, the individual will work closely with the faculty, technicians, house-officers and students of the medical oncology service. Candidates should enjoy working as part of a team to deliver quality and compassionate care for small and occasionally large animals.
In addition to overseeing treatment delivery, the individual will assist the radiation oncologist in the management of the radiotherapy service by coordinating patient schedules and internal consults, maintaining patient records, and assisting with client education and referring veterinarian communication. He/she will become familiar with the radiation treatment planning process as well as radiation side effects and their management. This position is suitable for a career technician or other qualified professional who is highly motivated and has excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

The University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for faculty positions in diagnostic imaging at the assistant, associate or full professor level. Appointment may be clinical or tenure track. Candidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree. Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Radiology is desired, however, board eligible candidates will be considered. We offer a competitive starting salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Following the retirement of faculty members, these open positions offer a unique opportunity to restructure and expand the current diagnostic imaging program to a final team of five full time radiologists.

Planning and purchasing are in progress to add a 1.5T MRI unit to accommodate large and small animal patients. Full radiotherapy services, supported by two radiation oncologists, include a 6 MeV linear accelerator with multi-leaf collimator and electron beam capabilities, Sr-90 plesiotherapy and radioiodine therapy for feline hyperthyroidism.
Responsibilities will include didactic teaching and clinical training of professional students, graduate students and residents. The individual will participate in and support the teaching and service activities of the diagnostic imaging service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Teaching and clinical responsibilities will be shared with other faculty radiologists. Interested candidates will have the opportunity for independent or collaborative research, basic science or clinical.
