Patient
Barney, 12-year-old male neutered Elkhound.

Presenting Complaint
Diagnosis of a lung tumor.  Lung tumors may be primary starting within the lung, or be spread (metastatic) from cancers from elsewhere in the body.  Since this was a large and single mass, it is most likely a primary lung tumor.

Endoscopic Technique
Thoracoscopic-assisted partial lobectomy of the lung lobe and biopsy of a hilar lymph node.

Benefits of using endoscopy
A thorascopic-assisted lung resection requires an opening only slightly larger that the tumor being removed.  This avoids the larger incision and spreading with a chest retractor, both painful and stressful procedures.
