Our Mission
The Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery’s mission is to enhance the science and practice of companion animal medicine through teaching and mentoring of students, interns, and residents, through providing exceptional clinical services, and through advancing knowledge of health and disease.
Teaching
Our department provides instruction to professional and graduate students in all areas of small animal medicine and surgery. We also provide instruction in clinical thinking and communications.
Research

Our department strongly supports faculty in their research endeavors. Faculty within the Department have a number of ongoing clinical and laboratory research projects. Please click here for a list of current clinical trials.
Service
Our department provides public service to veterinarians as well as to animal owners. In addition to providing veterinary care for animals presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, faculty within the Department provide consultations and continuing education courses to practicing veterinarians throughout the region.
