Clinical Research Program: Animal Owners

Research Benefiting Our Community

What are clinical trials?

Clinical trials are often conducted as part of the development of new medications, procedures, or therapies. This is the end-stage testing to determine the safety and degree of effectiveness for new drugs or treatments before FDA approval.

The University of Georgia works with various other research institutions and sponsors in conducting clinical research trials. The outcome of this important research benefits the entire veterinary community as safer, more effective treatments are developed as a result of new technology and ultimately made available to area veterinarians for the treatment of pets.

Current clinical trials

The current clinical trials page describes current research being conducted at the veterinary teaching hospital. If you are interested in participating, please contact the researcher listed at each trial description. Clinical trials are conducted with approval from the Clinical Research Committee, the Hospital Board, and the University of Georgia Research Foundation. Your pet will be monitored closely during the trial and receive excellent clinical care.

Supporting clinical research

You also can help fund a study in which you are interested by donating money toward a particular researcher’s study budget through the University of Georgia Comparative Medical Fund. Please contact Kathy Bangle, director of development, at 706.583.0154 or kbangle@vet.uga.edu.
