MAHM: Master of Avian Health and Medicine Online Degree Program
The University of Georgia (Department of Population Health) and the University of Melbourne
PDRC offers, in collaboration with The University of Melbourne, a three-year Master of Avian Health and Medicine (MAHM) graduate degree. The program is designed to give students a solid grounding in those aspects of poultry husbandry and management which are most relevant to avian health as well as the ability to use poultry pathology, immunology and microbiology as part of the systematic approach to disease or management-related problem investigations.
Courses for this degree are offered online to allow students to study while still continuing to work. Each individual subject runs for 16 weeks and focuses on topics relevant to the modern poultry veterinarian. Each subject has the basic structure of one preparatory week followed by 14 weeks of lectures and discussions, much like a typical face-to-face university subject. The final exam will take place in weeks 16 and 17.
Students will be expected to be able to set aside approximately 20-25 hours per week for reading, assignments and participation in online activities.
Application Process
All students must be admitted to both the University of Georgia and the University of Melbourne.
Students residing in Africa, North, South and Central America apply through the University of Georgia as their home institution. Students residing in Australia, Asia and Europe apply through the University of Melbourne as their home institution. A completed official application for a Master of Avian Health and Medicine degree from the Graduate School of The University of Georgia must be submitted by October 31 for possible admission the following March. The University of Georgia admits students only during the spring semester. The application materials can be found at the Graduate Admissions website.
Competitive applicants will have a minimum veterinary school grade point average of 3.0, a combined score (verbal and quantitative) of 1000 (valid only for the GRE General Test taken prior to August 1, 2011) on the Graduate Record Examination, official transcripts of all college courses, and written references from at least three persons.
Experience in the poultry industry is desirable; demonstrated interest in poultry medicine is required. In addition to the requirement of the Graduate School of the University of Georgia, applicants are required to have a DVM, or equivalent degree. Applicants should submit a biographical sketch describing their experiences, their interest in poultry medicine, and explaining their reasons for applying to the Master of Avian Health and Medicine program.
All admission requirements of the Graduate School of The University of Georgia must be met. Final decisions on applicants cannot be made until all materials (application forms, letters of recommendations, transcripts, and GRE scores) are received.
