Irrigation | Aspiration

Irrigation and aspiration can be used during laparoscopy and thoracoscopy in similar fashion as traditional surgeries. Both endoscopic and traditional surgeries require a clear view of the surgical site, thus flushing and aspiration of blood clots. Endosurgery permits better viewing than traditional surgery, thus reducing hemorrhage.

Many types of energy sources are used to control bleeding. These include electrosurgical (monopolar, bipolar, and ligasure), ultrasonic and laser equipment. Other hemorrhage control techniques include staples and clips that are applied with specialized laparoscopic forceps.
