Trocar Cannula

Trocar cannula are the portals through which the laparoscope and terminal operative instrumentation are passed. When used in the abdominal wall for laparoscopy, these trocars must be able to retain carbon dioxide within the abdomen. For thoracoscopy, the trocars only need to serve as portals as the lung elasticity will retract the lung sufficiently to permit examination of the chest.
