Endoscopic procedure: Laparoscopy to evaluate and biopsy mass, followed by traditional laparotomy to remove liver lobe containing tumor.
Benefits of using endoscopy:
Laparoscopy permitted evaluation of mass to determine if the tumor might be respectable.
For Holly, we felt that we could resect the tumor and did do so.
If the tumor had already spread extensively, this surgery may have ended with the two openings required for laparoscopic diagnosis.
Holly would have then been recovered with no additional surgery as her quality of life was till very good.
The clinical course to operate traditionally in an attempt to remove a large mass obviously requires a well-informed client being involved in the decision.
Laparoscopy provides the best source of information about the tumor.
