Derby

Derby
  • Patient:
Derby, 1 and a half year old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog.

  • Presenting complaint:
Owner requested laparoscopic-assisted gastropexy and ovariohysterectomy (spay).

  • Endoscopic procedure:
Laparoscopic spay followed by laparoscopic-assisted gastropexy.

  • Benefits of using endoscopy:
Both procedures could have been performed with traditional techniques through one long midline incision. Laparoscopy permitted both to be done through 3 small incisions. Laparoscopic ovariohysterectomies work extremely well in dogs with coagulation and healing problems as the incisions are small and hemorrhage is minimal. Exotic and wild animals benefit from a laparoscopic spay as minimal postoperative care is required.
