Brutus

Brutus
  • Patient:
Brutus, 7 year old male Rottweiler.

  • Presenting complaint:
Red blood on bowel movements for past 5 days. Rectal mass palpated just inside the anal sphincter.

  • Endoscopic procedure:
A Ligasure forceps was used as a tissue sealer, which prevented bleeding and avoided the need for sutures following excision of the rectal polyp. Pathology interpretation of the polyp was that it was benign.

  • Benefits of using endoscopy:
The Ligasure forceps permitted resection of the rectal polyp without bleeding and eliminated the need for sutures to close the wound. The dog was discharged following recovery from anesthesia.
