Bently

Bently
  • Patient:
Bently, 6 year old male English Bulldog.

  • Presenting complaint:
Inability to urinate, despite straining to do so.

  • Endoscopic procedure:
Urethroscopy from the bladder to the outside during traditional cystotomy to remove calculi.

  • Benefits of using endoscopy:
The urethroscopy revealed a stricture just proximal to the os penis region of the urethra. Since this stricture combined with a very small calculi had apparently caused the obstruction, it was elected to produce a new urine opening, a scrotal urethrostomy. Urethroscopy revealed that there was no calculi residing in the urethra, and proved to be a superior imaging technique over contrast radiology of the urethra.
