Spike

Spike
  • Patient:
Spike, 12 year old neutered male Bichon.

  • Presenting complaint:
Right side epistaxis for 6 months and frequent sero-sanguinous discharge with white and red blood cells.

  • Diagnostic studies before endoscopy:
Complete blood count, blood chemistry profile, and coagulation studies were normal. Radiographs reviewed opacity on the side of the nose, without evidence of bone destruction.

  • Endoscopic procedure:
Rhinoscopy to examine nasal cavities. Proliferative tissue was found, and a biopsy taken. The histology was a nasal adenocarcinoma. A fine needle of the mandibular lymph node found lymphoid hyperplasia, but not evidence of cancer spread.

  • Benefits of using endoscopy:
Rhinoscopy provided a quick and non-invasive evaluation and biopsy of the nasal tumor.

  • Clinical result:
Spike was irradiated for nasal tumor, and is free of clinical signs at 7 months.
