Millie

Millie
  • Patient:
Millie, 10 year old spayed miniature poodle.

  • Presenting complaint:
Upper respiratory noise, plus right-side nasal discharge. Millie also had controlled diabetes mellitus and mild mitral regurgitation.

  • Diagnostic studies before endoscopy:
A computed tomography of the head identified multiple nasopharyngeal and soft palate abnormalities.

  • Endoscopic procedure:
A stricture in the choana was identified by rhinoscopy. A radiofrequency element was used to resect and enlarge the opening from the nasal to the pharyngeal cavities.

  • Benefits of using endoscopy:
Rhinoscopy was a minimally-invasive procedure to identify and treat the choanal stricture that had produced long-term clinical signs.
