Lucy

Lucy
  • Patient:
Lucy, 2 year old spayed female Labrador retriever.

  • Presenting complaint:
Lucy was adopted 15 months previously as a spayed dog. Eight months ago, she developed estrous and was explored by another veterinarian who removed cystic oviductal tissue. Now, Lucy is again in heat.

  • Diagnostic studies before endoscopy:
None, other than pre-anesthetic tests which were within normal limits.

  • Endoscopic procedure:
Laparoscopy, using 3 trocars, to identify and remove tissue appearing to be ovarian. On histology, both sides had cystic ovaries.

  • Benefits of using endoscopy:
Laparoscopy provided better examination of both areas caudal to the kidneys, the site where persistent ovaries should be. The recorded images here are much poorer quality than seen on-screen. When reviewing dogs with residual ovaries, we much prefer laparoscopy over traditional laparotomy.
