Gator

Gator
  • Patient:
Gator, 10 year old male neutered Laborador retriever.

  • Presenting complaint:
Inspiratory dyspnea with slow breathing rate as Gator struggled to get air into his lungs.

  • Diagnostic studies before endoscopy:
Radiographs and blood tests revealed no abnormalities.

  • Endoscopic procedure:
A left side cricoarytenoid laryngoplasty was performed by traditional surgery. A 10 mm laparoscope placed through a PVC pipe through the mouth to monitor the opening of the glottis.

  • Benefits of using endoscopy:
The endoscopic view of the larynx permitted the surgeon to adjust tension on the “tie-back” suture to provide an open airway without severe distortion of the larynx.

  • Clinical result:
Gator’s breathing markedly improved following surgery.
