Housing on Campus
Living on campus is a great way to meet new people and stay close to the University community and activities. UGA Housing provides comfortable, affordable, and secure places to live, where residents are encouraged in their personal growth and academic success. The University's seven residential communities, with a total of 20 residence halls, offer numerous living possibilities with regard to location, roommates, dining options, internet and other amenities, and community activities.
Getting Around Campus
The University promotes the use of bicycles on campus with bike lanes on campus roadways and bike racks outside all buildings. In many locations, covered bike parking is available as well as shower facilities. Our campus-wide bus system is the largest university transit system in the country, and members of the University community can also ride any Athens Transit bus free of charge. Automobile parking is available in the 18,000 spaces on campus.
Cheer for the Dawgs!
On football Saturdays, more than 86,000 fans fill Sanford Stadium. Intercollegiate athletics has always been a key element of Georgia spirit and no matter what sport you prefer, you can find a team to support. University of Georgia athletic teams have won 27 national championships, including 17 this decade.
Ramsey Center for Physical Activities
The 425,000-square-foot Ramsey Center is a state of the art recreational facility with swimming pools, weight rooms, an indoor running track, exercise equipment, fitness classes, racquetball courts and a two-story indoor climbing wall. The Center also offers training programs for many outdoor activities. Sports Illustrated has rated Ramsey as the nation's best fitness/exercise facility for students and faculty.
Student Organizations and Clubs
UGA hosts nearly 500 student organizations covering an astounding range of shared interests in order to actively involve students in campus life, including 32 social fraternities and 22 social sororities. Visit the Campus Life website for the master list of student organizations.
Cultural Events
A recent addition to the University's East Campus, the Performing and Visual Arts Complex is among the finest facilities in the South for teaching, research and performance in the fine arts. The Performing Arts Center, bringing major concerts and musical performances to its 1,100-seat auditorium; the Georgia Museum of Art, with 9,000 square feet of exhibition space; and the Hodgson School of Music are all part of the Complex.
Many other venues on campus regularly offer films, recitals, exhibitions, lectures, and performances, including the Student Learning Center, the Fine Arts Theatre, and the Georgia Center.
