Anesthesiology
Information for veterinarians
The anesthesiology service at the University of Georgia is always willing to accept consultation calls regarding difficult cases veterinarians plan to anesthetize.
We are very happy to accept referrals to the Teaching Hospital purely for anesthesia purposes (i.e. dental on an old dog, cat with HCM, septic animal, etc.). We also can provide information on prior difficult cases, although it can be challenging to reconstruct a case after the event.
If you are interested in visiting and spending time on the anesthesiology service, please contact us. Visiting academic veterinarians may spend time on the anesthesiology service to learn new techniques, experience new technology, or to satisfy board-certification requirements (i.e. ACVS).
Visiting general practitioners have the opportunity to brush up on their anesthesia skills, learn about new drugs and technology on the market, and participate in challenging case management. We are one of the best-equipped anesthesia sections in the country, with gas-analyzer capacity in each surgical suite, regular placement of direct arterial catheters, and even indirect cardiac output monitoring. Periods of one day to several weeks can be arranged on request.
