Anesthesiology
What is anesthesiology?
The Anesthesiology Service of the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital provides anesthesia services for large, small and exotic animals for medical, surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures. This includes general anesthesia, sedation, and pain management consultation.
Our anesthetic management incorporates state-of-the-art equipment, including anesthetic gas analyzers, capnographs, blood pressure monitors and mechanical ventilators.
We are highly responsive to pain management in animals. We incorporate techniques of specific nerve blocks and continuous intravenous infusions of pain-relieving drugs in our anesthetic protocols and during recovery from anesthesia.
We provide emergency anesthesia service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Veterinarians can become board-certified anesthesiologists by meeting the requirements of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists.
