Radiology requests are now being submitted through UVIS! Please contact your supervisor if you have questions about this process.
Earth Fare Pet Wellness Day
The Earth Fare Pet Wellness Day is Saturday, August 9, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Earth Fare in Five Points. Hot dogs and veggie dogs are availble from the grill, with all proceeds going to the Athens Area Humane Society's Spay/Neuter Clinic. There also will be pets available for adoption during this time.
Earth Fare's community coordinator, Michael Perkins, ath300community@earthfare.com or 706.227.1717, is looking for demonstrators or exhibitors for this event as well. Please contact him directly for more information.
Japanese students and faculty visiting
From August 16 through August 29, we will once again be honored with visitors from Kitasato and Kagoshima Universities in Japan. We will have nine veterinary students and two faculty members visiting As in the past, the students will participate in clinical rotations.
In the past, faculty and staff have shared dinner with our visitors, taken them to UGA sporting events, and taken them on shopping outings. We are open to any of these or related social activities. Academic Affairs will be happy to facilitate activities, and CVM vans are available for your use in transporting our guests.
Please contact Tracia Cloud (tracia@uga.edu; 706.542.8411) if you are interested in participating, and indicate which activities and date(s) you have in mind as soon as possible.
White Coat Ceremony
The White Coat Ceremony, welcoming the incoming class of 2012, will be held Sunday, August 17, 12 to 2:30 p.m. in the Mahler Auditorium in the Georgia Center. There will be a recessional, led by GVMA president Jim McClearen, from the Georgia Center to the College after the ceremony. A reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. in the student lobby.
Training and Development Courses
Register for any trainging and development course through the online, self-service Web site
Animal Care and Use Bioware Software Training: Electronic AUP Creation and Submission
Course will be offered on:
August 21, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m., OR
September 18, 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.
This class is not a IACUC required course. It is intended for those who need further training using Bioware software. Course will cover the AUP Creation/Submission process in detail with hands-on experience. For questions about this class, please contact Tina Tornambe at tornambe@uga.edu
IACUC 101: Animal Care and Use Compliance:
Course will be offered on:
August 28, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., OR
September 16, 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
This course will be required for those using vertebrate animals in research, instruction or outreach activities at the university. IACUC 101 will cover basic compliance responsibilities of those involved with animal use at the university. The laws, regulations, and guidelines that inform our obligations for the humane care and use of animals will be explored. The University's ‘Animal Use Protocol’ will be reviewed including tips for filling out the forms and description of the approval process. The roles of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Principal Investigators, Attending Veterinarians, and others will be outlined.
Staying Healthy When Working with Animals:
Course will be offered on:
August 19, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., OR
September 17, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Staying Healthy When Working with Animals will inform participants of the health and safety risks associated with working with animals. Allergies, diseases transmitted to humans, repetitive motion problems, and other workplace hazards associated with animals will be discussed. Work practices, engineering features, protective apparel and other means for minimizing the risks associated with these hazards will be examined.
Pet Photo Exhibit
Entries are always accepted for the Pet Photo Exhibit displayed in the Small Animal Waiting Room. Please encourage your coworkers, clients and friends to participate! There are no fees to enter the exhibit.
Just pick up an entry form from the Small Animal Hospital registration desk, the Community Practice Clinic, Reading Room, Educational Resources, or download the entry form and the release form.
Winning photographs will be on permanent display in the College of Veterinary Medicine along with your personal story about your pet. All winners will receive a beautiful framed certificate displaying their pet photo.
