Focus: Medicine, Lameness, and "How to" Topics
Academic sessions will be held at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, 1197 South Lumpkin St., Athens, Ga.
The 9th Annual Equine Encore conference is designed to provide equine veterinarians with up-to-date information and techniques that can immediately be incorporated into their practices so they can better serve their clients. Lectures will be 25 minutes in length with 5 minutes for questions and attendee participation. Lunch will be extended in order for current veterinary students and faculty to discuss potential externships, internships and associate positions in your practice.
This conference is held in honor of Dr. Dilmus Blackmon, a past faculty member and department head of the Department of Large Animal Medicine at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Proceeds from the meeting will be used to establish an endowment to provide annual financial scholarships in Dr. Blackmons name for veterinary students with a particular interest in equine medicine or surgery.
This scholarship honors Dr. Dilmus Blackmon (DVM '56), a retired UGA professor of large animal medicine. Dr. Blackmon was a field service clinician for many years and served as the large animal medicine department chair for 10 years prior to his retirement in 1994. Known for his humor, good cheer and humanity, as well as his veterinary skills, Dr. Blackmon is revered by many of his fellow colleagues, former students and clients. Once fully funded, this scholarship will benefit a veterinary student with a concentration in equine medicine or large animal mixed practice.
