Welcome Class of 2011

Computers

Classroom instruction at the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) utilizes a variety of formats, including web-based and computer-based instructional technology.  Furthermore, email is an official form of communication for the UGA and the CVM.  All students are assigned an email account, which they are expected to maintain.  All official communications from the UGA and the CVM will be delivered to your @uga.edu or @vet.uga.edu address.  Most of CVM is blanketed with a wireless “cloud” for readily available, secure internet connectivity.  As with many other academic institutions, the CVM is attempting to reduce the amount of paper consumed in the production of photocopies of classroom material and is encouraging the use of electronic formats for instruction.  Course materials for core classes will be available through password protected links on each departmental website and will be organized by course number.  While you may wish to consider the purchase of a personal computer, the college does not require the purchase of a computer, and student-owned computers are not required for any classes at this time.  Our state-of-the-art VetLab Facility includes computers that are available for general and classroom use by our students.  Additionally, there are a number of 'walk-up' areas that require little or no scheduling, and in some locations, food and drink is permissible.  Should you wish to purchase a laptop or desktop computer for personal use, the CVM's Information Technology Services group has suggested that you review the following website for information and recommendations: www.sts.uga.edu/buya.html
