The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia provides many opportunities for students to receive scholarships throughout their four years of veterinary medical education.
At the beginning of each academic year, enrolled DVM students will be strongly encouraged to complete two application forms, which will allow them to be considered for the bulk of the scholarship monies available. One form is the application for Need-Based Financial Assistance. This form will qualify the student for scholarships based on demonstrated financial need. The other form is the application for Awards Not Based on Financial Need. This form will qualify the student for scholarships based on academic merit, leadership, areas of interest, etc. As stated above, students MUST complete these forms to qualify for these types of scholarships. Please complete the attached forms and return to Amy Thompson in the Academic Affairs Office by October 8, 2007.
In addition, there are several announced scholarships throughout the academic year. These will be posted on this website, in addition to students being notified by email. Criteria set forth by the donors, information about each scholarship, and instructions regarding how to apply are described at this site. The deadlines of these specific scholarships vary so it is up to the student to adhere to the deadline as NO EXCEPTIONS are made.
Students are strongly encouraged to apply for all scholarships in which they meet the minimum requirements. Some of these scholarships can drastically reduce your debt load.
Scholarship and award recipients are honored at our Annual Honors and Awards Celebration at the end of the academic year. This gives the students a chance to meet the donors who make these scholarships possible and thank them for their support.
Should you have any questions regarding the scholarships or the process, please contact Amy Thompson in the Academic Affairs Office at 706.542.5719 or amythom@uga.edu.
