About SCAVMA

The Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SCAVMA) is the governing body for student issues within the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia.

In addition, SCAVMA is a non-profit organization that funds various professional organizations within the college, such as the Canine Club, the student chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners or the Public Health Veterinarian club. SCAVMA sponsors seminars, speakers, conferences, and learning opportunities that enable students to enhance their education outside the classroom.

SCAVMA also provides annual scholarships for outstanding veterinary students. Most importantly, SCAVMA gives thousands of dollars each year to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the University of Georgia. Not only does SCAVMA provide resources that enhance student learning, this organization also enables the College of Veterinary Medicine to better serve the Athens community.

Composed of a Senate, with representatives from each of the four years, as well as an elected Executive Board, SCAVMA meets every other week to discuss current issues, student concerns and conduct business. All veterinary students are welcome to attend these meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of each month.
