Contact informationName: Brett LevitzkeE-mail: blevitzke@verge-brooklyn.com Additional informationVeterinary Emergency and Referral Group, aka VERG, is a progressive, 7000 square foot state of the art emergency and referral hospital in the trendy Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn. We are the only 24 emergency and referral hospital in Brooklyn, a borough of 3.5 million people and receive referrals from over 100 local practices, which provide us with diverse and interesting cases. Opened in 2005, VERG has experienced tremendous growth, both in staff and caseload. Specialty services include Surgery (General, Orthopedic, and Neurosurgery), Internal Medicine, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Neurology and Dermatology. Support staff consists of an amazing group of highly skilled and trained technicians and assistants. Our facility is equipped with digital x-ray (DR), dedicated Phillips abdominal and cardiac ultrasound units, endoscopy, cystoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy, a surgery suite with 3 complete stations and full laboratory-including the Heska CBC and chemistry analyzers, I-stats, and SCA 2000 for coagulation profiles. We also have the only veterinary MRI system in Brooklyn. VERG has entered the fifth year of successful internship and externship training. Because we are a smaller facility, our interns and externs benefit from individualized attention. Interns will spend time on the various specialities with approximately one third of their time devoted to emergency cases. While interns will have primary case responsibility, they are never alone on emergency shifts as there are at least 1-2 experienced emergency clinicians working along the intern for teaching and support. Advanced procedures, including endoscopy and surgery are routine for emergency cases and interns will have direct involvement in the cases from start to finish. The typical week for the intern includes an average of five shifts per week and two days off. The hospital is located in an upscale section of Brooklyn, minutes from downtown Manhattan. Brooklyn has more than enough to keep a person entertained, and the collection of museums, parks, and historical landmarks is the reason Brooklyn is a popular tourist site. The area is family friendly (with a pre-school next door), but also trendy enough for the younger crowd with numerous upscale restaurants and lounges along "Restaurant Row" a block away. In addition we are minutes away from beautiful Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the cultural hub of Manhattan. VERG prides itself on being a fun yet intellectually stimulating place to work. Our staff looks forward to coming to work each day and we are seeking motivated and enthusiastic candidates who share these attributes with us. Graduates of foreign programs who are eligible for licensure in New York state are encouraged to apply as VERG has a sister 24 hour clinic in Rome, Italy. Applicants should contact Dr. Brett Levitzke by phone or email with questions or to schedule an interview or externship. In-person interviews are strongly encouraged, however phone interviews are also accepted. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact our current interns or visit our website at www.verg-brooklyn.com for more information. |
