Dogs and Cats Veterinary Referral is searching for a qualified candidate for a 53-week rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery. You will rotate through the following disciplines - Cardiology, Surgery, and Internal Medicine/Oncology, Neurology/Neurosurgery, and Emergency. We also have consultants in Ophthalmology. Interns will spend one week a month on an overnight shift, work two weekends a month consisting of either ICU care or Emergency, and spend two weeks a month on a specialty rotation. Weekends and holidays will be covered by the interns on a rotating basis with support from the staff doctors, part of which is in-hospital support. The staff doctors are highly trained professionals who are passionate about their work and as a result offer a great support system. Our family atmosphere helps you learn and gain the confidence, efficiency, and knowledge you will need in your own practice. You are also supported by a group of well-trained technicians many of whom are certified. Our practice is housed in a newly-renovated 12,000 square foot building with the most technologically advanced equipment, including digital radiography, a spiral CT, fluoroscopy, 2 state of the art ultrasound machines, ECG telemetry system, ability to monitor COP, and a rehabilitation facility. We have recently transitioned our emergency service into a 24 hour general emergency clinic. Interns are supported by a senior emergency doctor until at least 10pm. Emergent procedures after hours, on the weekends or on holidays will be supported by the appropriate staff specialist. There are two out-of-hospital rotations, each two weeks in duration. One rotation will be at a busy local general practice. The other rotation is elective and can be selected from the core specialties above, or with participating local practices for experience in radiology, ophthalmology, exotics/aquarium medicine, or other disciplines. Benefits include health insurance, Maryland licensing fees, Simple IRA, online access, a work email account, and 5 vacation days. In addition to salary, interns will earn up to a $10 stipend for emergencies seen after hours. Interns will be expected to participate in weekly rounds conducted by the staff doctors. This will include journal club, radiology rounds, topic rounds, morbidity/mortality, case reports, etc. There are also weekly in depth case discussion rounds with a staff doctor. The cases discussed during these rounds will be chosen by the interns. Each intern will also be required to present either a case report or a short topic presentation of their choice. Bowie, MD is conveniently located between Washington, DC, Annapolis and Baltimore. Access to metro service to DC and Baltimore is within 2 miles of the practice.
