The practice opened in July 2008 and is owned by a 2006 UGA CVM graduate. We are approximately 80% small animal and 20% large animal with about an even number of horses, cattle, and goats for large animal work. We provide 24 hour emergency work and have staff members available to stay overnight with hospitalized patients in order to provide the best care possible. We employ a LVT as well as three LVT students so there are plenty of qualified staff members to help care for patients. An extern would have the opportunity to participate in medicine and emergency case workups in both small and large animals. We have instruments for surgical dental extractions and are willing to teach students how to do surgical extractions. There will be opportunities for practicing technical skills such as blood draws, catheter placement, intubating, etc as desired. However, we emphasize adequate technical staff so that this will not become the extern's only responsibility. We have a small pet adoption program and an extern may be able to perform surgeries and/or be primarily responsible for a treatment plan on these pets if the opportunity occurs.
