Prerequisites: PARA 5200
Objectives:
Description: The course will focus on the biology, epidemiology and
control of clinically important nematode parasites of ruminants and
horses. Emphasis is placed on clinical and diagnostic issues relating
to host-parasite interactions and the development of parasite control
programs. Laboratory portion will emphasize diagnostic methods,
interpretation of laboratory results, and problem solving. Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to diagnose and
treat parasitic infections of large animals and design parasite control
programs tailored to the needs of individual farms.

Host-parasite interactions,
Pathological impact of parasites,
Epidemiology of nematode transmission,
Interpretation of fecal egg counts,
Concepts and principles in the control of gastrointestinal nematodes,
Anthelmintics and considerations for appropriate drug choice,
Anthelmintic resistance,
Designing parasite control programs
