Description of the Courses
The object of this course is to provide students with an in-depth understanding of equine lameness, and the diagnostic imaging techniques used and their interpretation.
Number of credit hours: 2.6 credit hours
Course objectives
Identify a lame limb; understand the use of and perform regional anesthesia in the diagnosis of lameness; choose appropriate radiographic techniques and projections, make and interpret the radiographs; understand and utilize the capacities of diagnostic ultrasound, and interpret ultrasonographic images; and understand the principles behind nuclear scintigraphy and interpret scintigraphic images.
Course Outline:
Students will spend the beginning of each day in rounds for one to two hours. The reminder of the day will be divided into demonstrations and hands on laboratories. Laboratory subjects will include: diagnosis of lameness, use of diagnostic anesthesia, use of ultrasound, use of radiography, use of nuclear scintigraphy, and clinical case management.
