2003 Course Syllabus

Course Description:

Clinical training and experience in all large domestic animal species (cattle, horses, goats, sheep and swine) and some exotic large animals.

Objectives:

Upon completion of the course the successful student should be able to:

Conduct a complete physical examination on any large domestic animal.

Determine a reasonable set of disease differentials.

Design a reasonable diagnostic plan to include but not limited to:

Diagnostic test

Diagnostic procedures

Diagnostic manipulations

Interpret results of order test and/or diagnostic procedures and/or manipulations.

Increase one’s clinical proficiency in various large animals procedures as limited by caseload.

Keep field medical records.

Learn how to safely handle animals in a field environment.

Academic Honesty:

Students are expected to abide by the academic honesty policies as outlined by the University of Georgia of Veterinary Medicine.

Grading System:

Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory

Credit Hours:

4 hours

Repeat Policy:

Course can be repeated for credit:  maximum credit allowed 8 hours.

Required Prerequisites:

Completion of 3rd year veterinary curriculum.

Course will be offered:

Every semester.

Topical Outline:

Students will learn to appreciate the daily life of a large animal veterinarian varying from daily schedule farm calls to emergency calls.
