Title: Clinical Therapeutics
1 credit hour - 15 contact hours

Offered: Fall elective periods; minimum enrollment of 5 students; maximum enrollment, 20 students (third year students)
Prerequisite: VPHY 5200
The science and the art of case management will be discussed using interactive discussions of clinical small animal cases seen or currently being seen at the UGA CVM Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Cases will be selected to discuss the finepoints of therapy for disorders affecting the following organ systems: cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal, urinary, dermatologic,and endocrine; as well as cancer therapy, pain management, antiinflammatory therapy, and antimicrobial therapy.
Beyond reinforcement
of the principles of drug therapy, the course will focus upon:
1. the manner in which the therapy will be monitored for success or failure
in an individual case.
2. prediction of best
and worst case scenarios for the therapeutic course
(i.e. therapeutic success and failure, including toxicity).
3. identification and comparison of alternative therapeutic regimens
Student Evaluation and Grading:
Participation in case discussions and 1 case evaluation (50%)
Examination (case discussion; assay format) (50%)
