The science and the art of case management will be discussed using interactive discussions of clinical cases seen or being seen at the UGA CVM Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Depending upon the number of registrants and their respective interests, a focus upon small animal, large animal, or exotic animal cases may be possible. Cases will be selected to discuss the finepoints of therapy for disorders affecting the following organ systems: cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal, urinary, dermatologic, and endocrine; as well as cancer therapy, pain management, anti inflammatory therapy, and antimicrobial therapy.
Beyond reinforcement of the principles of drug therapy, the course will focus upon:
1. the manner in which the therapy will be monitored for success or failure in an individual case.
2. prediction of best and worst case scenarios for the therapeutic course
(i.e. therapeutic success and failure, including toxicity).
3. identification and comparison of alternative therapeutic regimens
Student Evaluation and Grading:
1. Participation in case discussions (34%)
2. Preparation of 2 written clinical case discussions (3-4 pages each) according to a standard outline (33% apiece).
