The course will cover common surgical diseases of the gastrointestinal, urogenital, musculoskeletal, and respiratory systems of cattle and small ruminants. Prerequisites Third year veterinary student of by permission of the instructor. The course grade will be decided on class participation (20%); 2 quizzes (20% each); and cumulative final examination (40%) for this course. Overall grades for the course will be assigned as follows: A = 90-100% D = 60-70% B = 80-90% F < 60% C = 70-80% The course grade will be decided on class participation (20%); 2 quizzes (20% each); and cumulative final examination (40%) for this course. If participation is impossible because of a severe illness, a death in the immediate family, or other grave circumstances, the student must notify Dr. Mueller immediately. If 3 or more of the classes are missed and not made up to the satisfaction of the course coordinator, a grade of incomplete will be given. Arrangements will need to be made with the Department of Large Animal Medicine and the College’s Office of Academic Affairs to resolve the incomplete grade. All tests must be completed by each student. If one of the tests is missed because of the reasons above, a special make-up test will be given. Be able to produce a list of differential diagnoses and formulate a diagnostic and therapeutic plan when presented with a food animal or small ruminant with a surgical related disease. 3.
