Course description: Medical and surgical principles of equine dentistry will be studied and practice.

Prerequisites:  Second year veterinary curriculum.

Course objectives:

Upon completion of the course the successful student should be capable of:

Performing a complete oral examination of the horse’s mouth and charting the information on an equine dental chart.

Outline a diagnostic plan for a given set of equine dental clinical signs.

Determine what test, if any, are indicated to complete the diagnostic and treatment plan.

Perform a routine float with hand instruments.

Be knowledgeable in the principles of motorized equine dental equipment

The course syllabus is a general plan for the course.  Deviations announced to the class by the instructor may be necessary.

Required reading assignments are from Equine Dentistry, 1st edition by Gordon J. Baker and Jack Easley.  The student is encourage to read outside the required book for additional opinions.

Grading  Policy:

Brades to be assigned as follows:

Practical exam              50 points

Final practical exam      100 points

Total 150 points

A=>135 points

B= 120-134

C= 105-133

D= 90-104

F= <  89

The instructor reserves the right to administer a different exam in case of an examination is not taken on the scheduled date.  A retest or makeup exam for an excused
