Vesicular stomatitis:
Vesicular stomatitis is a vesicular disease affecting cattle, pigs, horses and some wildlife. The disease is caused by a virus in the genus Vesiculovirus, family Rhabdoviridae. Clinical signs are very similar to those seen with FMD. A distinguishing feature is that horses are susceptible to vesicular stomatitis virus, whereas this species is resistant to FMDV. Transmission of the virus is by direct contact with infected animals or through the bite of infected insects. It has been suggested that plants might be capable of harboring the virus. Distribution of the disease is restricted to parts of North America, Central America, and northern South America. Diagnosis is through serology or isolation of the virus.
