Nierembergia veitchii

Scientific name: Nierembergia veitchii ( Solanaceae)

Common name: none known

Description: A prostrate herbaceous annual found in more elevated pastures. It is distributed widely in Rio Grande do Sul. Leaves may be alternate or opposite, with hairs, ovate to elliptical and attenuated at the base. Leaves are 1-3.5cm long and 0.4-1.7cm wide. Inflorescences are solitary, axillary, white bluish to lilac in color and 6 cm in length. Petals are 5 and rounded. Stigma is separate from the stamen. Flowers October thru February. Plant cannot be found by March. Growing season begins in August when it can be found in small amounts without flowers .
