Veterinary organizations have recently emphasized the importance of globalization, with international veterinary medicine being one of the growth areas within the profession. Unfortunately, existing training does not provide adequate preparation to meet this area of increased opportunities. Our interdisciplinary certificate program in international veterinary medicine will serve to familiarize students with issues and opportunities in this field in a comprehensive manner, through coursework and externships.

Requirements for completion of the certificate will include accruing 15 credits through:

  • completion of an elective course, International Veterinary Medicine (VETM 5201)
  • completion of at least one international externship
  • proficiency in a foreign language
  • completion of a 4960 course (Directed Reading/ Special Projects) in a department OUTSIDE of the veterinary college

The certificate program will begin in the spring of 2000 and will require three years to complete. Students will be awarded the certificate at the same time the DVM is conferred.

The program will be managed through the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, with actual administration by Drs. Corrie Brown and Julie Moore, Coordinators for International Activities within the College of Veterinary Medicine.

A Registration/Enrollment Form is available on line as a Word document (*.doc) and in printable Acrobat Reader PDF format.
