The Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery is the academic unit with responsibility for teaching and research in diseases of small companion animals (dogs, cats, pocket pets, pet birds, etc.), wildlife and zoo species. The department's faculty also provides service in companion animal medicine and surgery to clients of the Teaching Hospital and consultation to practicing veterinarians.

Our Mission
The department's mission is to enhance the science and practice of companion animal medicine through teaching and mentoring of students, interns, and residents, through providing exceptional clinical services, and through advancing knowledge of health and disease.
