Dr. Spencer Johnston, Department Head
Dr. Johnston was appointed as head of the Department of Small Animal Medicine & Surgery in February of 2011. The Department is comprised of 34 faculty members, 19 staff members, and 35 house officers. The Department is administratively divided into three sections: Surgery, Outpatient Medicine, and Inpatient Medicine. Dr. Karen Cornell, Assistant Department Head

Dr. Erik Hofmeister, Chief of Staff of Surgery and Anesthesia
Dr. Johnston has served as Chief of Staff of Surgery since March 2011. The Surgery and Anesthesia Section is composed of the General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and Anesthesia services, which includes nine full-time faculty members and seven residents. Dr. Northrup has served as Chief of Staff of Outpatient Medicine since 2008. The Out-patient Medicine section is composed of the Cardiology, Community Practice, Dermatology, Oncology, and Zoological Medicine services, which includes 10 faculty members and four residents. Dr. Ward has served as Chief of Staff of In-patient Medicine since 2007.
