Dr. Mark Jackwood named Head, Population Health Department

The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine has appointed Mark W. Jackwood, a molecular virologist known for his work in avian diseases, to head its Department of Population Health. The department includes the College’s Food Animal Management program, Laboratory Animal veterinarians, as well as two significant areas of public service and outreach: the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center (PDRC) and the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study (SCWDS).

‘Osy’ Debuts as an Educational Mobile App

Elizabeth Antley, outstanding sophomore student

Elizabeth Antley, Class of 2013, received the Outstanding Sophomore Student Award for having the highest cumulative grade point average in the second-year class.

2011 Alumni Award Winners

Five Distinguished Alumni awards and one Young Achiever award were presented during a luncheon at the 48th Annual Veterinary Conference and Alumni Weekend at the Classic Center, Athens, Ga. on Saturday, March 26, 2011.

The awardees are (Row 1, from L to R): Dr. Brett Levitzke, class of 2000, Young Achiever Award; Dr. Edwin T. Still, class of 1959, Distinguished Alumnus Award; Dr. Edward L. Roberson, class of 1961, Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Vets for Pets and People

A student-led and faculty-supported volunteer outreach project, from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, was recently recognized for its efforts to heighten awareness about the link between animal abuse and domestic violence, and to provide help to victims who own companion animals.

"Vets for Pets and People" was named "Advocate of the Year" for 2010 by the Domestic Violence Task Force of Athens-Clarke and Oconee Counties.
